Truck 3

2001 F350 4x4

This truck is a quick attack truck, stationed in the Hoosac Tunnel section of Florida.  This truck carries approximately 200 gallons of water with 150’ of 1 ½” hand line. This truck carries medical equipment, water rescue equipment, an ice rescue suit, ladders, chimney brushes and chemicals.  Over the past few years there has been an increase in traffic along the Deerfield River.  Due to the introduction of white water rafting to the area this truck is pivotal in quick response to emergencies in the Hoosac Tunnel section of Florida.

Engine 1

1995 International

This vehicle carries 1,000 gallons of water along with 30 gallons of foam.  This engine has the capability of pumping water at 1,000 gallons per minute.  The foam unit allows the pump operator to use a minimal amount of water and is rated to fight 9 times the amount of fire thru the 1 ¾” hand lines.  The foam has a greater penetrating effect on fires.  This makes it very useful in fighting structure fires as well as wild-land fires.  This truck carries medical supplies, oxygen, backboards, neck collars, rescue saws, ventilation equipment, water supply hose, and a portable pond.

Engine 2

1986 Ford

This truck with it’s automatic transmission carries 1,000 gallons of water.  This vehicle has a pump that will provide water to the hand lines and supply hoses at a rate of 1,000 gallons per minute. This truck was purchased from the Town of North Bennington, VT.  After the purchase the Town of Florida had the main metal water tank replaced with a fiberglass one.   This vehicle is our primary attack truck for fires and other emergencies.  It carries approx. 300’ of 1 3/4” hand lines, which firefighters use to fight fires and for protection at accident scenes.  It also carries approximately 2,500’ of supply line, in case the water source is not close by or the fire is down a long driveway.  We also have on this vehicle a 2,500 gallon portable pond (dump tank) for our tanker to dump into.  The jaws of life equipment for rescuing people involved in auto accidents is found on this vehicle.

Truck 5

1975 Dodge 4x4

Truck 5 is our wild-land fire truck,  also known as a brush truck.   It's primarily used for grass fires and woodland fires.  This truck carries 150 gallons of water in the main tank and has 17 back pack hand pumps.  It carries 12 grass brooms, 12 polaski axes, 12 brush rakes, and a portable pump with a 1 1/2” hand line.  We also carry a small portable pump that weighs less than 15 pounds, with 150’ of 1” hand line that can be carried into remote areas.  This truck has traveled for mutual aid purposes to surrounding towns as far away as Russell, Great Barrington, and Mt. Tom in Holyoke.  It’s capability of going off road has been useful in bringing materials and firefighters into remote wild-land fires. This truck was a quick attack truck in Hoosac Tunnel for many years.  Once retired, the fire fighters converted it to a wild-land truck by repainting it and building a new body for it to handle brush fires.

Rescue 6

ATV 6x6

This all terrain vehicle and trailer were purchased with funds provided by public safety grants.  Over the years the firefighters have found it difficult to access remote areas of town during a brush fire or in the winter.  This vehicle has made it easier to move equipment and firefighters to the remote locations. This ATV was recently used during a large wild-land fire in Rowe and to rescue a lost person in Savoy State Forest.  In Florida there are over 5,000 acres of state forest with an increasing number of visitors each year. We believe this ATV will see a lot of use.
