1954 The Construction
The firehouse construction was started in June of 1954 of Church Road between the old Town Garage and the Town Hall that was built in 1923. Howard A. Burdick did the grading for the foundation using the Town's bulldozer. Eugene Mullette supervised the construction. Others working on the project were Richard N. Brown, Stanley L. Brown, William Brown, and Irving Mullette.
The concrete was mixed onsite in a half bag mixer rented from Leo Moreau. The form and framing lumber was purchased from the Oleson Brothers sawmill. The mill, located on Oleson Road was operated by Einar and Yngve Oleson. The finish lumbar, siding, shingles, and other materials were purchased from local suppliers. The building plans called for a meeting room upstairs. This room was not finished until later. The total cost of this undertaking, to house the Town's first fire truck, was just over $3,000.00.
